“I have heard that in some debating clubs there is a rule that the members may discuss anything except religion and politics. I cannot imagine what they do discuss; but it is quite evident that they have ruled out the only two subjects which are either important or amusing. The thing is a part of a certain modern tendency to avoid things because they lead to warmth; whereas, obvious]y, we ought, even in a social sense, to seek those things specially." -G.K. Chesterton
Purpose
The Clash of the Titans® series of debates was founded out of a conviction that an open exchange of viewpoints is essential for intellectual vitality at a university seeking to train future leaders. To provide examples and to encourage strong but respectful powers of reason and argumentation, Regent University instituted the annual Clash of the Titans debate. From 2003 to 2014, leading figures from politics, journalism, the military, and academia brought their expertise to bear in a series of robust and illuminating debates on some of the most pressing issues facing the United States and the world.
Following a decade-long hiatus, Clash of the Titans has returned to tackle the key issues and problems of a new era and political landscape.
