What About Media Bias and Fake News?

  • Be aware that each publication has a certain worldview or political goal which is good to be aware of as you are reading their articles.
  • Google boosts certain sites at the top of the search, so you may only be seeing one point of view if you rely on a simple search.
  • To find articles from a certain point-of-view and ensure you are seeing all sides, try Googling your topic plus the name of a publication, like abortion "First Things" or abortion "Christianity Today" or abortion "National Review"
  • If you run into a paywall, use the Journal Search to see if we own the publication. Don't pay for an article!
  • Also try influential Think Tanks and the websites for non-profits like political advocacy groups, churches/denominations, universities, museums, and public archives. These sites can have interesting research and well-written opinion or feature articles.
  • Here is our library page on think tanks & policy organizations.
  • Check the political leanings of a think tank or publication at All Sides bias checker.
  • Also, look for sixteen indicators of bias.
