The Council of Nicaea & The Nicene Creed

This page discusses the Council of Nicaea and the Creed

The Apostles Creed

"Landscape with the baptism of the eunuch" (1630-1639) - Herman van Swanevelt

"The vast majority of the more than one billion global
Christians belong to churches that endorse the Apostles' Creed. Millions of Catholics and
Protestants recite the creed weekly in one of its translations from
Latin, causing its affirmations to rank among those most shared by
religious people throughout the world. Only the Lord's Prayer is
more widely memorized and recited by worshipers. For at least a
dozen centuries the Apostles' Creed has been regularly placed in
congregational orders of worship, and for more than four centuries,
English-speaking Christians have affirmed, sometimes with a
substitution or omission of several words..."

The Apostles' Creed

(per the Book of Common Prayer, 2019)

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth;

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
